Doing Business 2016: Montenegro improves rank (46)

World Bank has published 13th Doing Business report for 2014-2015 period. According to the report, Montenegro was ranked 46th out of 189 economies covered.
A new methodology was implemented in this year’s publication in 7 out of 10 indicators: Dealing with Construction Permits, Getting Electricity, Registering Property, Trading Across Borders, Protecting Minority Investors, Resolving Insolvency and Enforcing Contracts. New methodology resulted in huge shifts in global ranks. Montenegro’s rank in the previous year (2015) according the old methodology was 36, which is revised according the new methodology 47th place. Thus, according the new methodology implemented, Montenegro improved its global rank for one place, which is 46 in the year 2016.

DB2016 data for Montenegro. =Doing Business reform making it easier to do business

In the DB 2016 report, two main Montenegrin reforms were especially highlighted:

Dealing with construction permits
Montenegro made dealing with construction permits easier by reducing the time needed to issue building permits.

✔  Paying taxes
Montenegro made paying taxes easier for companies by introducing an electronic system for filing and paying labor taxes—though it also extended the application of the “crisis tax” for an indefinite period on income exceeding €720 a month.

Comparing Montenegro with other South-Eastern Europe economies, FYR Macedonia (12), Slovenia (29) amd Croatia (40) had higher rank. Serbia (59), Kosovo (66), Bosnia-Herzegovina (79) and Albania (97) had lower ranking than Montenegro.
