Statistics: 2014 Labour force survey in Montenegro

Monstat has published release regarding 2014 Labour Force Survey. The main objective of the survey to gain insight into the behavior of certain groups in the labor market in a way that enables the application of modern methods of analysis of any scientific fields: economics, sociology, psychology and others. One of the main objectives of the survey is that when defining the overall employment and unemployment, international standards apply to this category could be compared to equivalent categories in other countries, especially European countries. Survey, as in the procedures of sample selection and in defining the questionnaire, based on the recommendations of the International Labour Organization.

Labour Force Survey was conducted in the 2014, and the observation period was from January to December 2014. The surveying was done in 8,213 households on the territory of Montenegro. The survey collected data about demographic characteristics for members of the households (25,337 persons were surveyed), and data about economic activity for persons aged 15 and more (21,101 persons, which makes 1.2% of the total number of interviewed persons aged 15 and more).

According to data for four quarter in the 2014 labor force in Montenegro consist of 263.7 thousand of active population. From that number there were: 216.3 thousand persons in employment or 82.0%; unemployed persons 47.5 thousand or 18.0%. The number of persons in employment in comparison with the previous year has increased 7.1% and the number of unemployed persons has decreased 2.9%.

The activity rate for the 2014 is 52.7%, the employment rate is 43.2% and unemployment rate is 18.0%. Measures of the activity of the population for 15-64 age groups are: the activity rate is 61.6%, the employment rate is 50.4% and the unemployment rate is 18.2%.
