Djokovid 19 Novax Case: How Montenegro evaded the “Adria Tour” coronavirus farce

Prime Mister of Montenegro, Dusko Markovic answered the question of the Members of the Montenegrin Parliament. One of the questions was about the Novak Djokovic’s tennis tournament, whose idea was to be partially organized in Montenegro, however it was eventually cancelled and organized in Serbia and Croatia instead. Not organizing the tournament in Montenegro was heavily criticized by Serbian (and pro-Serbian) media, and the Government of Montenegro was criticized for not allowing the tournament.

PM Markovic stated:

No, that’s not true. We actually allowed the tournament organization, but under strict accordance to the National coordination anti-covid body rules. We simply didn’t wanted to gave up anti-epidemic measures under pressure of the sportsman or big corporations who were the sponsors of that tournament. We said: the health of Montenegrin citizens is #1 priority. Today, we are very proud on that decision.

Montenegro was for some 44 days corona-free destination, and in a meanwhile, sport is allowed, but by strict rules (distance, hygiene, minimal contact, crowd limitation, etc.) On the Tournament, five top ATP tennis players were infected.
