EP: Building consumers’ trust in Digital Market

enEnglish available languages

Building consumers trust in online goods and services, improving infrastructure and promoting innovation are keys to unlocking the potential of the EU digital single market, which could generate €415 billion each year, Internal market and Industry MEPs said during a debate on Tuesday. Several MEPs also underlined the need to ensure net neutrality and avoid unnecessary red tape.

A draft report by rapporteurs Eveline Gebhardt (S&D, DE), for the Internal Market Committee, and Kaja Kallas (ALDE, ET), for the Industry Committee, sets out Parliament’s response to the Digital Single Market strategy presented by the EU Commission on 6 May.

The report is to be put to the vote at a joint meeting of Internal Market and Industry committees in December and by Parliament as a whole later in a plenary session in Strasbourg in January 2016.
