Netherlands or Holland? Holland or Dutch?
What do we know of this country? The Kingdom of the Netherlands is currently composed out of four countries: the Netherlands, Aruba, Curacao, and Sint Maarten (located in the Caribean). But that’s not all – the Netherlands as a constituent country of the Kingdom is composed out of 12 provinces (Drenthe, Flevorland, Friesland, South Holland, North Holland, Gelderland, Groningen, Limburg, North Barbant, Overijssel, Utrecht, Zeeland), and three Caribbean Netherlands islands 🇧🇶 (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, Saaba). It’s Capital is Amsterdam, and the seat of the Royal House is the Hague. However, the most populous city where Dutch is spoken is Antwerpen in Belgium. 😏
Now there is a question – how is development of national branding going to continue in the future? At least of the European part of the Netherlands.
The Dutch government is going to stop promoting the country abroad as ‘Holland’ and will instead use The Netherlands. Holland is Dutch historic name and a current name of the country that exist in many languages. Nowadays it geographically stands only for two Dutch provinces. But that’s not all.
The new dutch logo is characterized by two symbols: NL and a stylized orange tulip. 🌷
From now on the Netherlands and the Kingdom can be recognized internationally by a new logo. The logo replaces the much-used ‘Holland tulip’ of the Board of Tourism & Conventions’ (NBTC).
NL will be the official branding at the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year and at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam next May. The colors of the national flag are red, white and blue, but the orange color is used as a national branding color.
Did you like the concept of new national branding? It is definitely worth visiting this beautiful country. And it is absolutely up to you – whether you will visit the Netherlands or Holland.😁
