Montenegro is an independent and sovereign state, with the republican form of government.
Montenegro is a civil, democratic, ecological and the state of social justice, based
on the rule of law.
The name “Republic to Montenegro” refers to the period when Montenegro was part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia or the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. The name was still used upon independence in 2006, but the official name “Montenegro” was prescribed in the Constitution which was adopted in December 2007.
However, the obsolete name “Republic of Montenegro” is still incorrectly used in some official documents, civil servants, media and websites.
