CEI Montenegro: cooperation, EU values, solidarity and good relations

Podgorica CEI Montenegro event – FM Darmanović: Within CEI cooperation, we continue to adopt European values, strengthen solidarity and good neighborly relations

As Chair of the Central European Initiative (CEI), Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović opened the first meeting of the Committee of National Coordinators of the CEI Member States in Podgorica.

Speaking about the significance of the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective to the long-term stability and economic growth of our region, Minister Darmanović highlighted that the Montenegrin presidency of the Initiative, for the second time of our membership, is a great motivation to continue the adoption of the European values and standards using the potentials of CEI.
“Over the past decades, Montenegro managed to preserve its most precious value – a multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-confessional harmony and understanding. Montenegrin society is an example of how living together in diversity is possible and it represents basis for progress, as well as the concept of multiculturalism is and must be a success story. And this is our concept for the future. That is why Montenegro is today a platform for regional gatherings and a multitude of initiatives that seek to our common goal,”
Minister Darmanović pointed out.
In this regard, the head of Montenegrin diplomacy noted that Montenegro would continue to work on promotion of the key values of CEI, aimed at strengthening solidarity and good neighbourly cooperation.
CEI Secretary General Roberto Antonione noted that Montenegro can count on the CEI Secretariat support and expressed confidence that this would be another, in a series of successful Montenegrin presidencies.
“Montenegro is a key player in the region and promoter of good neighborly relations. I am convinced that they will make every effort for regional cooperation to remain one of the most important instruments for the European integration and sustainable development,”
Secretary General Antonione stated. He emphasized that the political priorities of the Montenegrin Presidency are fully in line with contemporary challenges, adding that the key mission of the Initiative is to promote the European integration of Montenegro and the Western Balkans region.
The meeting, which was attended by representatives of 17 CEI member countries, welcomed the priorities of Montenegro’s presidency of the Initiative, reflecting national and the interests of the entire region. They also exchanged opinions on the importance of working together in the areas of scientific diplomacy, environmental protection, integration, public administration reform and the creative and cultural industries. In addition, the need to intensify cooperation between the parliaments of CEI member states and the promotion of the economic potentials and values of the region through strengthening the business dimension was highlighted. Unanimous support was given to the goals of the Presidency, towards providing better preconditions for the socio-economic development of the region and its cohesion.
The CEI – Executive Secretariat also informed about current and upcoming activities within the governmental, parliamentary and economic dimensions of CEI and on cooperation with the international institutions.
